About the author

Yarmolinsky was a critic, biographer, and author who served for over thirty years as chief of the Slavonic Division of the New York Public Library. He also taught Russian and Columbia University and the City College of New York.

Dr. Yarmolinsky participated in the editing and translating of numerous memoirs and books of Russian and German poetry. His wife was the poet Babette Deutsch.
