Here is the definitive story of Savile Row, the internationally renowned epicentre of gentlemen's style. Introduced by Tom Ford, it is a rich visual history of the street synonymous with elegance, sophistication and timeless attitudes. Including rare archival material and previously unpublished images, alongside specially commissioned photography and fashion shoots, this lavish celebration brings together the Row's tailors, the personalities, the dramas and private tales, the suits and their accoutrements, the fabrics and the cuts, as never before. An exclusive bonus section offers a complete resource for anyone wishing to have a suit made.
This is arguably the best book out there on the history of various Savile Row houses. I would even go as far as it does a better job in introducing each of the respective houses' history than some of the houses do on their website! Anyhow, what I found interesting is its inclusion of various houses that one may not normally brand as a Savile Row tailor. I wonder, shall this book ever were to be updated again, whether it would include small houses, such as Michael Browne and Dobrik & Lawton.
4.5 stars for the amazing history of the savile row tailors and the kings, actors and other stars who used them.
You can really learn a great deal about Savile row houses from this book my only regret is that there is much more about history and the famous people who ordered their suits at the specific houses and much less about house style, cut or for which type of men is whose suit for.
All in all probably the best book about Savile row tailoring.
Reading this as background for a project that needs to be finished by the end of the month, sad I had to race through it. Certainly worthy of lingering over, with all the beautiful photographs.
