Ariel Marinie was born in Paris. After travelling extensively in Finland and Scandinavia in 1971, she emigrated to Canada in 1972. In 1975 she returned to France, where she became a journalist and translator. She has translated some 130 books from English into French. She has a Master's degree in English and a DEA (Diplôme d'études approfondies) in Russian. She has published two novels, Le Chat a créé Dieu à son image (Editions Unicité, April 2018) and La petite Fille Rouge (L'Harmattan, 1998) as well as short stories and poetry (L'Homme qui marche, Les Cahiers Bleus, 1981), Des Chemins et des îles (Librairie Bleue, 1985), Contes pour l'Hiver (Librairie Bleue, 1987) and Le Vent et l'Esprit, Librairie Bleue, 1997). She also contributed to various literary journals (Les Cahiers Bleus, Vagabondages, Points et contrepoints, Slovo (INALCO), Stroker (New York), Quetzalcoatl (Belgium). She is one of the three co-authors, with Frédéric Surville and André Gailing, of the historical novel Hippolyte ou les orages de l'histoire published by the Editions du Cherche-Midi in 2015.
