Very shocking book and hard to forget all the crude violent scenes. I read this book 15 years ago (I think) and still remember most of it, which rarely happens to me. Black velvet is about Anna, a girl who lives alone and has a creature in the closet that makes her kill men and do things with their body parts. During all the book I really believed she was schizophrenic and that she is imagining the creature because Anna is a very disturbed girl. She has been repeatedly abused by her father now dead and it resulted on her having sick pervert relationship with men. She also has strange passionate feelings for her father which made me feel sick and disgusted. I couldn't really understand why she would still love such a horrible man who molested her, on the other hand it might be just a way to tell how disturbed and sick she was. She was swallowed more and more in her crazy world trailing the reader with her until the final scene with the vampire coming out of the closet. I still don't think of it as a real vampire but just a metaphor subconscious monster she fed over and over again until it grew out of her and overcame her... but that's just me remembering something I read when I was a teenager
