This is the story of a forgotten toy who can't remember his name. He is befriended by Muriel (a hummingbird who flutters off the pattern on a lamp), Hermann (a daft draught excluder), and Wedgie and Woodie (penguin-shaped salt and pepper shakers), and embarks on an adventure to meet Ming, a wise and ancient Chinese vase cat.
Mrs Weevils bria-a-brac shop comes alive at night time. Stripy horse goes on a mission to find out who he is and what his name is. Stripy horse is told the best person to speak to is Ming the wise, as he knows everyone in the shop. In the end he finds a label that says Stripy horse and with this gains his identity. This book is used by a theater company called Punch Drunk, who use the idea of a bric-a-brac shop to recreate the magic of the shop. The company create a shop in the school and all staff are briefed and asked to keep the shop a secret from children as only the children need to know and experience the magic of the shop. The children then are given a button from Mrs Weevil and using this they start writing stories of their own. The children's experience of visiting the shop full of magical stuff sparks their imagination and enhances their literacy skills. For all age children! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_BKN6...
