Spignesi ranks the most influential Italians of the modern era. He explains in the introduction why he did not include the period of the Roman Empire. The top portion of the list is occupied by scientist and followed by explorers. Visual artist are in the middle along with literary. Musical artist follow that. Film makers are towards the end. Military and political leaders are spread throughout. This is roughly the grouping. Such list are always subjective and inspire readers to make up their own top 100.
