Three of Jean Ure’s best-loved stories in a bumper 3-in-1 edition – PASSION FLOWER, SHRINKING VIOLET and PUMPKIN PIE. In PASSION FLOWER, Stephanie, a hip fourteen year old, and Samantha, her ten-year-old sister, are stuck in the middle of their parents’ arguments. When Dad suggests going on a summer holiday, they jump at the chance. In SHRINKING VIOLET, twins Violet and Lily lead very different lives; Lily has friends and goes to parties and Violet stays at home, writing to her pen pal. But when Violet borrows bits of Lily’s life to make herself sound more interesting, it’s bound to lead to trouble… In PUMPKIN PIE, Polly is stuck in the middle of a beautiful, fashion-conscious older sister and a high-achieving younger brother grabbing all the attention. Polly never wanted to turn food into her enemy, but when Dad starts calling her Plumpkin she doesn’t have a choice…
Had her first book published while still in high school, then studied theater at Webber-Douglas in London. Her most well-known work is the Point Crime novel Dance with Death. Others include Plague 99, After the Plague (previously "Come Lucky April"), Big Tom, Family Fan Club and Shrinking Violet, as well as the fantasy The Wizard In the Woods.
Today, Ure is very popular with British female teenage readers with novels such as Shrinking Violet, Family Fan Club and Passion Flower.
Ure has also translated Danish writer Sven Hassel's WWII novels to English.
This used to by my favourite collection out of the 3 collections Jean Ure had published. After reading shrinking violet I was obsessed with wanting a pen pal even more than before.
I did write to some people but they never wrote me back, so in the end I gave up.
I really loved Pumpkin Pie and Passion flower too. I also remember really liking sugar and spice!
I think Jean Ure was one of my favourite tween authors
I think these books are brilliant. As a tween, it provided me with a lot of guidance and exposure to real world issues cleverly written for a child to understand. Highly doubt my mom would have bought me these series (I have read almost all Jean Ure books) had she explicitly known the content. I'm glad she never noticed!
