The creation of the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside within Greater Manchester in 1974 united nine local authorities which, whilst sharing to a large extent a common industrial history, nevertheless were significantly different in many ways. This book presents a short history of some of these differences and similarities. Illustrated and with a select bibliography.
