Neo led the way with this book, practicing his reading while also telling a story many children have likely repeated over the years. The narrator tells her story in rhyme, all about a dad who loves to feed her only healthy foods. No soda, no treats, and rarely any meats. While she is forced to hide away all these greens, her dog ends up with all the fatty and sugary foods. However, when it comes time to play afterwards, she has that dog beat every time.

Neo liked the easy rhymes this book brought out and laughed at seeing that large dog, left stuck on the grass with a tummy ache.

I did the reading with this book, practicing so that I can get better, while also telling a story many children have likely repeated over the years.

I liked the easy rhymes this book brought out and laughed at seeing that large dog, left stuck on the grass with a tummy ache. The dad did a good thing by always giving vegetables, even when the girl refused. She was able to show how active she could be with lots of vegetables as body fuel. I do not have a pet large enough to eat treats, but I thought the idea was quite funny.

My dad does make me eat greens and other vegetables, but he is also nice enough to give me some chocolate and other treats on occasion. However, I need to be strong, so the good foods have to come first.

2.5 stars -- In this easy reader, a young girl spends all of her time complaining about her dad's "healthy" cooking, while she would much rather load up on junk. She notes with disapproval that their dog gets all kinds of fatty junk to eat, while she is served dishes heavy on the veggies. On the last page, however, she notes that she has lots of energy to run and play, while their dog lays like a lump.

Veg*n parents note: On one hand, the message that veggies and greens give you strength and energy while junk food weighs you down is certainly a good one. At the same time, the young girl in the story is shown reading a book called "Meat, the Redder the Better" and spends a page opining about hot dogs and ribs. [The family isn't vegetarian; Dad makes fish sticks (he is shown in fishing gear with a netful of fish) and he is shown serving a chicken's leg as well.] Veg*n families may want to skip this one for a book that better represents their attitudes.

This young lady is not fond of her veggies. She is usually eating healthy foods but wishes she could have some treats to snack on. Luckily, I have a kids who enjoys veggies, so he was interested in some of the new veggies in the book, such as, radishes. This made him curious to try new things. It was a great read.
