The Abbey School is rather a curiosity, though it is thoroughly up-to-date and run on splendid lines. It is owned by Patsy, as her father's heiress, and it is subsidized out of revenue which will be hers when she is twenty-one years old. Still, that makes no difference to Patsy - she is merely a schoolgirl at the Abbey, her life full of work and play, with now and then some real excitement. For about the Abbey, and over the village of Pengwithan, hangs a mystery.
