I signed up to review this book because I thought it looked interesting. The description made me think it was going to be filled with hilarious anecdotes of the world of online dating. It might be, but not in the first third of the book. That is as far as I could get. I don't like to give up on books, but when I find myself dreading it and trying to talk myself into reading ... well, it's time to stop. If reading it is like pulling teeth, I need to allow myself to quit. I'm not a quitter, and I always try to look for the good in a book. I figure there has to be something to redeem it, but I just cannot get into it.
For one, this just makes me wonder. Are people that pathetic? Some of the things some people say they endured as a result of meeting someone online ... I'd like to say I wouldn't let things get as far as some of these people did. I haven't actually been in such situations, though, so I'm not going to say that. But, reading these things was just frustrating, to say the least.
Add to this, the copy editing could have been much better. Perhaps if it was better, I would have been able to endure the book a bit longer to see if it got better. It is not enough to rely on spell check for spelling, because if a word is correctly spelled but the wrong word ... well, spell check doesn't catch that. As an editor, it frustrates me to no end running across stuff like this. So, I think this frustration added to the content that did the opposite of pulling me in made it so I just could NOT read this book.
My apologies to those who were involved in this book. I do not intend to hurt anyone’s feelings or anything like that. I make it a point to post honest reviews. I believe my reviews are more credible when I share both the good and the bad. I recognize that my opinion is just that, an opinion. I always try to find positive in books when I generally don’t have a lot of good things to say, but I believe honesty helps me keep my integrity as a reviewer. No one can possibly love – or even like – every single book that comes their way. And no one book will please everyone.

This is a quirky collection of anecdotes from actual people who have tried online dating; some experiences were good, some not-so, and SOME ... well, there were a couple of guy tales that I just think they made up, since they read like fantasy excerpts! But .. I did enjoy reading these. At the end of many of these stories, the authors have written cautionary or encouraging words to the reader. For instance:
This is such a great example of how love can prevail if we just throw away our list of check boxes. All of those "must be tall," "must be well traveled," "must be," "should be". If we look at our own reflection, we can probably see many mistakes and regrets we made as a result of simply being human. Next time we meet someone, let us take a lesson from this former priest, let go of our judgments, simply be present, and let our heart lead the way.
It was entertaining to read such a variety of stories; some heartwarming, some rather hilarious! I would recommend it as a fun, quick read, especially if you are considering the world of online dating, as the authors provide very sound advice (you'll date a lot of frogs to get to the prince or princess).

Love, Sex & Deception is a book that contains personal stories of internet dating and what happened on those excursions. Each chapter is set up with a theme such as Disaster Dates From Hell, College Kids, My Date Lied, just to name a few. Each chapter contains personal stories from internet daters, along with some tips from the authors about what you should and shouldn't do in the world of online dating. The book was a quick read as I finished it in a few hours. I think this is a book for readers that like to read short, funny episodes from people and what has happened to them in their daily life adventures. The book was entertaining and might be slightly reminescent of Jerry Springer episodes. It was a break in between the books I usually read that allowed me a few hours of humor. I think this book will be liked for that reason. It is a humorous, light read that can create an escape from your own life and worries.

The main reason I agreed to review this book is because my husband and I met online. He was the 2nd guy I met and I was one of many for him, but the only one who counts! I was curious what others had experienced as I have two close friends that also met their spouses online. It's definitely a growing trend - if you're careful!
This was a quick, humorous as well as informative read. I finished it in a couple of hours. It's broke down into very manageable sections with a few laugh out loud moments as well as some that elicited groans. The book is written in a fun tone that also delivers a lot of sound advice and safety tips. I didn't follow all of the safety tips they share, but I agree with them.
The fact that this book is written by a mother-daughter team who are/were both braving the online dating scene makes it even more interesting. They have a unique perspective.

Stopped about half way through. It has some interesting stories of online dating escapades but not much to learn here. When I have time for entertainment, I'll go back and finish it up.
