I found this book to be a great introduction to better understanding the countries we call Eastern Europe from a historical, political, social, and economic perspective. It's written by the Slovenian ambassador to the Netherlands. Highly recommended! (The title sounds humorous, but the book is quite astute and carefully detailed.)
