Proverbs: A Devotional Commentary

Rate this book
This book of the Bible contains 31 chapters, one for each day of the month. Written around 950-700 B.C. The author was King Solomon who was recognized as one of the wisest of men. This wisdom was given to him by the Lord (1Kings 3:12). The central verse is Chapter 3 verse 5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths". Read the book of Proverbs for instruction, guidance and understanding, which the reader will find of profit in daily living if the instructions and warnings are heeded. Guidance is given on practical daily issues: avoiding adultery, attaining wisdom, gaining understanding, shunning gossip, finding a wife (husband), training children, honoring parents, and the danger of riches. It also warns of the danger of destruction of those who despise reproof. Instruction is given for living both for moral and religious purposes where "the fear of the Lord" is the central theme. In this book William MacDonald provides a verse by verse commentary explaining some of the difficult subjects and instructions. This book is excellent for your personal study, or could be used as a guide for a group Bible study on each verse. We encourage you to read it yourself and pass on copies to other Christians in your fellowship.

William MacDonald (1917-2007) had, for more than forty years, written directly about the key issues of Christianity. Leaving a promising business career as an employed investment analyst with First National Bank of Boston "at the foot of the Cross", he had traveled worldwide, proclaiming the unsearchable riches of Christ.

His more than over eighty-four works published in North America are characterized by a clarity and economy of words that only comes by a major time investment in the Word of God.

MacDonald graduated with an AB degree from Tufts College (now University) in 1938 and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School in 1940. During the 1940's he was on active duty in the US Navy for five years.

He was President of Emmaus Bible College, a teacher, preacher, and Plymouth Brethren theologian alongside his ministry as a writer. He was a close friend and worker with O.J. Gibson.

MacDonald last resided in California where he was involved in his writing and preaching ministry. He went to be with the Lord in 2007.
