I enjoyed this book as an informative overview and explanation of the way nurse-midwives work in homes, hospitals, and birthing centers as well as their training and the process of prenatal care and labor with a nurse-midwife. It gives a lot of information and practical advice on seeking the best option for you. It was obviously for nurse-midwives and natural birthing options, but stated facts for these and didn't simply say how bad hospital births (and the like) are/can be. The book made a mature statement.

this was an incredibly factual account of what a nurse-midwife does, where she can practice and what to expect in each situation, either in a hospital, birthing center or at home. It details state laws as to the licensing of nurse-midwives and insurance and cost information. This is a great book if you are considering more natural methods of child-birth or, like me, are just interested in midwifery as a profession.

While I didn' read this straight through, it still is a good book for research, be it for a research paper or, I imagine, making an informed decision about choosing to give birth with a nurse-midwife. This has a lot of good, basic information and is an excellent jumping off point for further research.
