The Suffering-Glory Dichotomy: Living in the Tension of Jesus' Identity in Mark

Rate this book
It can be easy for us to point the finger and criticize Jesus' disciples in Mark's Gospel for their failure to grasp Jesus' identity. Time and hindsight have given us the clarity to see what Jesus' most intimate companions could not see. But consequently, in our 21st century context, we've stripped the wonder from the paradox of Jesus' identity. How could it be that the coming Messiah would suffer? How could it be that the King of Glory would be put to death? By sitting in this tension and discomfort, we come to see how magnificent and wonderful Jesus really is--that He's able to flip all our expectations on their heads in the most wonderful way.

This book was adapted from a Lenten sermon series at New Life Community Church in Coralville, IA where author, Thomas Cellilli is the Senior Pastor.
