An Introductory Course of Statistical Mechanics

Rate this book
Ideal for the readers without any prior knowledge of the statistical mechanics, this book offers a different perspective on the subject, prioritising relativistic systems over the norm of condensed matter physics. This paves the way to various applications of statistical mechanics to areas like Astrophysics and Cosmology. Non-relativistic systems and their applications to Condensed Matter Physics are not abandoned there are discussions on gases, liquids and magnetic systems. The book ends with one chapter on Phase Transitions and one on Boltzmann equation offering perspective encompassing many branches of Physics.

The pleasure of picking up a book by Palash-da is in
knowing that it would be easy and delightful reading
irrespective of whether it is a serious physics text or a
popular book meant for the lay reader. I am even more
partial to this book because this is the only text book
on statistical physics which not only devotes an entire
chapter to astrophysical systems but actually describes
neutron stars (my favourite kind of stars, of course) and
also because the treatment of thermodynamics is axiomatic
(again, the only kind I have ever been comfortable with.) :)
My only crib is a total absence of superfluidity (essential
for an understanding of those self-same neutron stars).
