Encouraging Words for Women: A Weekly Dose of God's Care and Provision

Can the twenty-first century woman truly trust God with the details of her life? According to author Darlene Sala, the answer is a resounding, "yes!" In fifty-two devotional chapters, readers are reminded of their worth in God's eyes, and of His affirmation, protection, and guidance. Well it could have been titled Encouraging Words for Christians as it is not really a gender specific thing and everyone needs encouragement- so aside from the title not being marketed to half the population this was a very well compiled series of vignettes that do offer encouragement and inspiration.

I'm not really a fan of religious books but I think I get why Mom bought this book - IT GIVES YOU HOPE.

I remember President Snow of The Hunger Games said, "Hope is the only thing stronger than fear." Before my Mom lose her battle with Cancer, I remember how often we visit different churches to pray for her; so that God will heal her and give her more time to be with us. But somehow, towards the end of her battle (when a relative passed away, which was about 40 days before she said goodbye) she suddenly said "Sana ako na lang (yung namatay)." I guess, in a way, the book helped her to see the light; that just because God gave her an incurable disease, doesn't mean He's punishing her or us. Maybe, as she was reading the book, she realized that it's ok to leave; that no matter how hard it will be (for all of us), something good will eventually come off it.

To be honest, I don't know if anything good has happened since she passed away. I guess the three of us (my siblings) finishing studies count, plus my in-laws and my nephew and nieces, but sometimes, especially when things suck so bad, I just can't help but think why us? Why my mom? Why our family?

I almost give up reading this book because it always made me feel sleepy whenever I turn a page. But gladly I didn't, because it made me realize the things I should be thankful for; things that no matter how impossible they may seem, it will happen if God permits. Although, I must say, reading this book reminds me so much of Mom's suffering it was abit hard to go along, especially towards the middle chapters. It just hurts remembering everything that she's been through. And even after more than ten years, the little things that reminds you of it brings a load of emotions - sadness, emptiness, and the longing for the one person that gave you life. Then again, as the book says, we will see each other... In time.

best devotional i've ever used or read. i'm super-finicky about my devotionals (it would defeat the purpose if i woke up every morning and rolled me eyes at the thing). but i enjoyed this one so much that i've shared numerous bits and pieces from it with friends. and based on those, several of my friends have bought the journal (or just the book) and rave about it too.

i did the last devotion today, and it was bittersweet. this devotional has become like an old friend. but like an old friend, i know it will be there for me, whenever i need it.

Con pocos temas, pero buenos. Me ha gustado el contenido, la autora relata sus experiencias de una manera que nos podemos identificar con ella.
Es de bendición este libro.
