I suppose most autobiographies are self absorbed by definition, but Nancy Zeckendorf’s rags to riches story exaggerates this tendency. The author never misses an opportunity to tell the reader how unique and wonderful she is and how many rich and famous people she has rubbed elbows with which can be very boring.
You learn very little about her inner life other than her continual disappointment at her parents seeming indifference towards her striving and having to deal with her wealthy husband’s moods. There is a lot of gossip about the ballet and opera world of her time.
I am grateful to Mrs. Zeckendorf’s constant fundraising for the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe. As a resident of Santa Fe, I have experienced many wonderful evenings of dance, theatre, and music at the Lensic. The development of the Lensic has made a real difference in the lives of Santa Fe residents.
