Hinduism began in India about 1800 B.C.E. For millennia it has been a vibrant faith in its own right, while also acting as the parent religion of Buddhism, as well as the Jain and Sikh traditions.
I actually had a difficult time deciding between a rating of 2 and 3 stars. The book was informative and I learned a great deal that I did not know before. The reason for the possibly lower rating was because, besides the Ben Kingsley, who did an excellent job narrating this book, there were other voice actors whose accents were at times so difficult to understand that I feel I lost some of what was being taught. The other reviews I read did not mention this, only referring to Ben Kingsley quality job, so perhaps I am one of only a few people who encountered this difficulty. I'm glad I read it, but wish I could have understood all of the narration.
This audiobook gives the history of Hinduism from 1800 BCE to the late 1900's. Ben Kingsley does a fantastic job because he is Ben Kingsley after all. The amount of info is overwhelming. This audiobook is a good starting point but more research is needed to get a better understanding of Hinduism.
Ben Kingsley did great at narrating the audiobook. Great for learning some basic history of Hinduism but left many questions as well- more a short history of the religion rather than deep diving into the religion itself.
