This book is more a labeled tableau of "day-to-day" occurrences in North American--meaning of the U.S. and Canada--than a dictionary. For a book that was published in the late 1980s, there is quite a lot that a non-native speaker can learn from it. For example, I found it helpful to learn the English terms for the different Canadian regions.

That said, the book was a bit uneven. I thought that the book got into a lot of detail into car engine terms, but barely touched on terms related to going to the movies.
