Bright Stars

Rate this book
Like every teen, V looks forward to getting her driver’s permit. But there are more than speed bumps in her way. Will the lack of support from her parents, a shady driving instructor, and a series of home robberies keep her from her quest?

V can’t wait to learn to drive. Though her mom’s cancer is in remission, she can’t convince her parents to find the time to teach her. The frustrated V finds out about a new driver’s training course and doesn’t hesitate to sign up. But there’s something suspicious about the driving instructor, and a rash of break-ins puts her neighborhood on high alert.

As the robberies escalate, a friend’s mom is the next victim. A family heirloom necklace is among the missing items. V tries to stay focused on learning to drive, but mysterious things keep happening that she can’t ignore. Before she knows it, she’s in the middle of a case she didn’t want, is about to lose the friends she worked hard to get back, and might never get to drive!

Will she get this case in gear, or will her investigation crash?

This is another fast-paced, suspenseful, and addicting book in the Chronicles of V! V is extra angsty in this book and who can blame her? I love how the story touches on and normalizes all kinds of emotions. These characters have been through a lot and it shows, but they do their best to overcome their struggles and come out stronger for it.

V is back solving another dangerous case in this book, despite her best efforts to stay out of it all. But the crimes just call to her and it’s a good thing because her detective skills are clearly needed in her town and beyond.

The friendship and family storylines are my favorite parts of the books. I especially love how close the family is, and V’s relationship with her little brother is so precious. I sure hope he got his Thunderbird back nice and clean. 💗 It was also great to see much more of V and Emma’s relationship in this book, especially in the later parts of the book. We knew of Emma from book 1, but (for obvious reasons) got to know her much more in this one.

This book has everything from heartfelt moments to edge-of-your-seat suspense. It’s absolutely a page-turner and if you enjoyed the first one, you’ll want to pick this one up as well! I hope we get even more of Detective V in the future. We need her!

First, I want to thank Tasche Laine and Skye Blue Press for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

Reunited and it feels so good!!! YES!!! It took 2 ½ years in the making but fans of V from Glass Stars will be ecstatic over the sequel Bright Stars!!! Thank you Tasche Laine for making this fan very happy!!!!

Bright Stars is a continuation to Glass Stars like I mentioned before. However, Tasche does a recap in the book of characters and situations. So, you could read it as a standalone. Guaranteed your head will be spinning with all the drama and events that you learned from the prior book. Both books are 5 stars.

Tasche brings you back in time to when a time was much simpler than it is today. Even though I would love to go back to that time frame she reminded me that it wasn’t all fun.

This book reminded me a lot of the tv show I used to watch and loved called Veronica Mars. Infact, this show was referenced in the book. I loved how V took on the role of Veronica and how she was determined to find out who stole the diamond necklace. That whole storyline totally fascinated me and was glued to the seat of my chair.

Dog lovers you will absolutely love the storyline Tasche wrote for you! It will make you smile and put love in your heart. She also goes above and beyond researching the dogs and posting pictures in her book. Dogs hold a special place in her heart.

Teen fiction is a genre that I love, as it somehow bridges the world of innocence with the one of adulthood, where things are rarely simple. The second book in the “Chronicles of V” series was a cool read and I loved the fast pace of the story. With characters that are relatable and a suspenseful storyline, it draws the reader in from the first pages, having an addictive effect. What can you expect? A detective like no other, problems that anyone can relate to, twists and turns to keep you on your toes… all in all, an amazing reading adventure!

My opinion:

V is a teen who has seen her fair share of problems, having to deal with her mom suffering from cancer. She is now looking forward to getting her driver’s permit, but things will prove more complicated than expected. Her detective senses are on fire, as she is dealing with a suspicious driving instructor. Mysterious things seem to keep happening, including a lot of robberies in her neighborhood. Even one of her family heirlooms has disappeared! Will she be able to untangle the mystery? Well, I am not one for spoilers, do you will have to read the book to find out. All I can say is that you should be prepared for a page-turning read, an adventure like no other.

While reading this story, I fell in love with the writing style and the characters going through all the emotions we experience on a daily basis. The story shows that it is perfectly normal to feel both good and bad, and I so agree with this perspective. I think teens need stories that show imperfect lives, stories that teach them about resilience and how to keep one’s head above the surface. V is an excellent main character, always ready for a new challenge, but the story also reflects her values, most importantly the ones related to her family. She represents an excellent model for the teens of today, teaching them what matters the most.

The author has managed to take serious topics such as PTSD and cancer, and wrap them into a story that is quite enjoyable to read. The story is beautifully written and has a raw quality to it, which just goes to prove that the author has a way with words. Far from being predictable or boring, it keeps the reader hooked, especially if one is a fine of detective stories. I also appreciated that the author included a recap of the first book, this can be really helpful if you are reading the books at different periods of your live. In more than just one way, the story reminded me of simpler times, when people had other values and were more committed to personal relationships.

Verdict:

Young adult books are perfect for adults, as they cater to the inner teen, or so I believe. Tasche Laine has written a wonderful book, adding to the story that many readers have come to love. I was so impressed with the lessons the story has to offer, especially in terms of emotional resilience and family closeness. From a different perspective, the book is perfect for those who love a good mystery or are fans of detective stories. Be sure to read the first book in the series, I can guarantee you will love it. Great series!

This riveting novel can be described as a teen detective story, but there's so much more to it than that! There's diverse characters, teenage angst, first crushes (and loves), friendship, mystery, danger, kidnapping, theft, drugs . . . and more!

The main character, V, has a lot going on. For one, her best friend, Emma, was kidnapped the previous year - V solved the case and rescued Emma and others, but Emma doesn't really speak with her anymore, which devastates her. Instead Emma starts hanging out with the other victim, Brylee, which makes V jealous. Her mom also had cancer at the same time. She's angry and goes off at anyone and everyone, including her teachers (and a certain boy). You can read more about this in the first book, Glass Stars, but it's not necessary in order to enjoy this new release as these events are summarized at the beginning of the book.

In the new release, V is starting her sophomore year of high school and her focus is on getting her best friend back and getting her driver's permit. She finds a driving course but the instructor is a bit suspect. There have also been break-ins in her neighborhood - could they be related? One of the victims of the robberies is Brylee, and Emma and Brylee ask V to take on the case. V finds Brylee's (actually her mom's) stolen necklace but does not want to continue with the case. Gangs are involved and it's getting dangerous. But mysterious things keep happening and people they know may or may not be involved. What will she do? Will she risk everything to solve the case? You'll have to read the book to find out!

I loved this book! It was fast-paced, beautifully written, and engaging. V is back on the case! When a necklace gets stolen, V is on a mission to discover the perpetrators, but she stumbles into a gang war that's more than she bargained for. I don't want to spoil anything, but this is a fun continuation of GLASS STARS (Book 1 in this series).

This story had such heart-warming elements! V's family and friends are so important to her. It really gave me the family feel-good vibes.

ALSO! I taught HS Chemistry for 5 years & the Chemistry teacher in this book is named after me. Mrs. Harrington. HEHE! I'm so honored.

Definitely pick up a copy of this. You won't be disappointed! :) The writing & the story are FANTASTIC!

So exciting and full of unexpected twists

Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed this second instalment of the Chronicles of V. Glass Stars was so good already and left me wanting more so I was really excited to start reading the second book when it came out. It did not disappoint and was even full of more mystery and unexpected twists along the way. I loved how the ending tied everything together in a surprising way and I was on the edge of my seat finishing the final chapters of the book. It was so captivating. I need to know what happens next now and I was glad to see that there will be a third book! This whole series needs to be made into a TV series, just like Veronica Mars! It's addictive and full of excitement and humour at the same time. Highly recommended!

Bright Stars: Chronicles of V is the second book in this incredible series! Both Bright Stars and Glass Stars can be read alone though you won't regret getting both! Bright Stars is a captivating, mysterious, relatable, high-stakes, drama filled, and emotional read! This book includes so many themes beyond mystery from romance, friendship, family illness, and teenage struggles! All V wants is to get her license, become close with her best friend again, and be there for her mom who is battling cancer. Life has other plans for V and her heart for justice can't turn a blind eye to all that happening around her despite her best efforts. Robberies, gangs, and one highly questionable driving instructor have invaded V's world and she can't help but connect the dots. Can she create a clear picture before it is too late? Will her hunches lead down dangerous roads.....maybe. V is the teen detective we all dreamed of being as a kid but were never gutsy enough to be. She is a character you will instantly fall in love with. She is extremely relatable and realistic. I could not predict this mystery which is a quality I value in mysteries. This book is intense but not as intense as thrillers which makes it enjoyable for everyone. I truly love this book and highly recommend this series!

As a snarky and smart-mouthed high school sophomore, V has many troubles she needs to work out after the events that happened in Glass Stars. I was glad to see the return of some minor characters from the first book who play bigger roles in Bright Stars. With burglaries, gangs, driver's ed, and all the drama of a modern-day teenager's life: boyfriends, sleezebags, BFF triangles, cars, breakups, budding young love, sneaky favors, and more, V's life is more than overwhelming. Bright Stars is a great read if you like contemporary teen mystery novels. Highly recommend. Looking forward to Book III, Broken Stars.

V is a character that is rough around the edges and sometimes immature, but finds the courage to stand up for what she believes is right. In doing so she also isn’t afraid to go beyond her comfort zone. I thoroughly enjoyed the story with all its twist and turns. I really liked the ending finale and would not have guessed the ending would turn out like it did. Five stars and a high recommendation for any reader wanting to escape into a teenage world of mystery and adventure!

I really liked this book! It’s a super entertaining YA story. There is a bit of mystery, a bit a suspense, a bit of romance!
V is a regular teenager except that she has a bag to get in trouble for meddling in police investigation! The best is that everything happens to her even when she’s trying to avoid it!

Totally recommended it!

What a crazy ride - from the first Drivers Ed class to the last Crash. V is a brave junior detective that loves solving crimes as much as she loves her family! There’s never a dull moment and you’ll be shaking your head as you cheer for V in latest predicament she gets herself in!

The life of a teenager is difficult enough. Now imagine your mum getting cancer and your best friend being kidnapped. V went through a lot, but she survived and successfully rescued her friend. In this book, things are getting better or at least they should… Somehow V manages to get herself in trouble again. And it’s not like she’s trying, it just happens… She gets involved in solving another crime case and learning to drive at the same time. Will she be able to get out in one piece? Will she be able to solve the case? This suspenseful mystery drama keeps you in constant tension. It’s definitely a page-turner.
Although it’s a sequel, you can easily read it as a stand-alone. I love how the author managed to describe the whole range of emotions in the teen’s life and normalize it. I would highly recommend it.

So good!!!
The second book in this series takes V through new adventures. Although she is a pretty self-aware teenager, she also struggles with some unresolved emotions from her experiences in the first book, Glass Stars. I loved seeing the character growth and really enjoyed the book overall. Can’t wait for the next one in this series!

A captivating story
Bright Stars, Book 2 of the Chronicles of V series, is not your typical YA novel. This book will have you on the edge of your seat with its many unexpected turn of events. All teen detective V wants is to get her driver's permit, but life always has challenges. Like any typical teenager, V deals with a lot in her sophomore year. She has anger management issues, her best friend, Emma, may not want anything to do with her, and V is having trouble experiencing first love. On top of that, there have been several robberies in her neighbourhood, and her shady driving instructor may be involved.
V is in over her head once again, but will she pull through with bravery, determination and a little help from her family and friends? You'll have to read the book to find out. You're going to love it. Highly recommended!

There was a long wait between books one and two so I like the brief recap in the beginning. Some loose ends from book one were tied up in this book, like explaining V’s anger issues. It was good to see her start to deal with that. She obviously went through a lot in book one, so I’m glad the author addressed this. I also liked that there were some lighter scenes with humor, and I adore Scotty’s new puppy!

Overall, I think the characters are well-rounded and the writing is solid. It’s a good book for teens that addresses concerns like friends, dating, and driving. I can’t wait for book three!

Book 2 was so good! You are rooting for V, scared for her, wishing you were as gutsy as her and I couldn’t wait to find out how this book was going to end. Luckily another adventure awaits and I get to continue on this roller coaster with her!

I love it when a second book shares the same quality as the first in a series! The Chronicles of V aire unputdownable, relatable to teens, thrilling, engaging. The character of V is so perfectly imperfect but has you rooting for her the entire time, and the story has it all. A great thriller with sprinkles of first love and especially friendship for young adults. We can’t wait for the next!
