This is one of the earliest and probably most respected works in Hindu mythology. The original 1861 edition, though masterpiece of scholarly writing on this difficult subject, was burdened by its enormous size. This edition has been composed and set against the original, it al all available ID to be found in a state of dilapidation. The original wood-cut drawings have been worked upon by expert artists. The style, however, adopted in the original work by Moor has not been interfered with.
