The Academic Imperative

Success for Christian schools often depends on their ability to mount large and varied-and expensive-academic, arts, and athletic programs. Some have done this amazingly well, becoming, in places, the elite schools in their communities. Others, unable to keep up, are closing their doors, chiefly in the urban areas, where the need for their services is arguably greatest. The pressure and competition are intense. This book contends, amongst other things, that most of us are going in too many directions at once. For the sake of Christian intellect and sanity, no less the health of American democracy, we need to slow down, simplify, prioritize, and concentrate. We may be in danger of forgetting what our purpose is, or, on the other hand, pricing ourselves out of business. Are there ways we can do better what we are meant to do, also do it more affordably? The author thinks so. "The Academic Imperative" is for eveyone concerned about the present and future of Christian education, and its unique role in our culture.
