Usha Priyamvada (Hindi: उषा प्रियंवदा) is the nom-de-plume of Usha Nilsson (née Usha Saksena; 1930, Kanpur – ), an Indian-born American emerita professor of South Asian Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, a novelist and short-story writer in Hindi and a translator from Hindi to English. She was a winner of the Premchand Prize in 1976, and the Padmabhushan Moturi Satyanarayan Puraskar in 2009.

Jhumpa Lahiri said somewhere that she wrote (her early immigrant fiction) to understand her parents. This selection of stories is the story of people like Lahiri's parents-- people leaving India for Europe and North America holding jobs in academia in the 70s-- stuck between two places demanding two different selves.

The writing also feels familiar to an avid Lahiri reader-- understated, observant, centring the emotional lives of women, capturing the small rebellions of their daily life.

कुछ दिन पहले मैंने उषा जी का उपन्यास पचपन खंभे लाल दीवारें पढ़ा था। उसके तुरंत बाद ही मैंने उनकी यह कहानियों की किताब पढ़नी शुरू कर दी। लड़कियों और औरतों की ज़िंदगी को समझने के लिए, उनके भीतर उठते भावों को महसूस करने के लिए मैंने यह किताब उठाई थी — और इसने मुझे निराश नहीं किया।
