Experience first, then intellectualize""

As you might know Carl Orff is a German composer and also a music pedagogue. The Schulwerk is a documental book regarding how Carl Orff's Approach begun and how elemental music concept started to grow.

I've been music teacher since 2011 and Orff Schulwerk changed all of my perception towards music not only how to nurture aesthetic generations through music, but also meaning of internalizing music as a professional musician.

If you are music teacher or someone who is into Orff Schulwerk Approach, this is a fundamental book in order to figure out what The Schulwerk is .

Elemental music is never just music. It's bound up with movement, dance and speech, and so it is a form of music in which one must participate, in which one is involved not as a listener but as a co-performer."

Studying the philosophy/pedagogy of Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman changed the way I approached teaching music, so it was fascinating to learn more about the history and circumstances that brought about the Schulwerk. This volume of Orff's autobiography explores the formation of the Güntherschule, the 1936 Olympics, and the beginnings of applying his pedagogy for teaching children. After reading, I feel that I have a deeper understanding of what "elemental music" really is and the founding pedagogies of the Güntherschule.
