If you are thrilled when you discover a favorite piece of fabric, consider looking when you travel. Sometimes hidden gems are uncovered in unlikely places. In a German village, I stumbled onto a tiny antique shop. I didn't see anything that interested me, but while struggling to communicate, the owners went into a backroom, returning with boxes of gorgeous linens and fabrics. I had been riding my bicycle, so I feverishing cycled back to get a vehicle. I had the opportunity to acquire rare old fabrics in beautiful condition. In addition, searching for textiles helps make a connection with the people of a country; most people are happy when foreigners appreciate something about their country. Be sure to have a look at this lovely book before you go.
Generally, I love this author's books, but I found this one to be a bit inaccessible. It was beautiful, yes. And beautifully written. It was full of eye candy, too. Just not my topic. I thought I loved fabric and textiles, but this book showed me that I only have a passing acquaintance with them. Not sorry I read it, but pretty sure I wouldn't read it again.
