The Essential Book of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Vol. 1: Theory
For more than four thousand years, Chinese scholars and medical practitioners have documented ways of maintaining health and treating illness, from theories of yin-yang and the zang-fu organs to the use of herbs and acupuncture. The Essential Book of Traditional Chinese Medicine marks the first time such concepts have been made accessible to Westerners in a comprehensive form.

This volume is a great resource for a non-practitioner to learn the basics of traditional Chinese medicine. It is similar to The Web That Has No Weaver : Understanding Chinese Medicine, but this one generally goes into more details. The text is paced well, considering the information density. It also includes some nice drawings depicting traditional medicine scenes. I checked this out from the library, but I'd like to have a copy myself.
Please note I am not an expert in this area, just a curious fan of the TCM system.
