Strength of character lies in the determination to hold on to truth regardless of circumstances or consequences. The hero in this story proves that every seemingly insignificant deed is noticed by God. Even though his life is threatened by the prince and his guards, this young man's word is a treasure that will not be sacrificed; it will be rewarded in a most unusual turn of events.

4.5 Stars. Lovely little story collection with great moral lessons!

“That to act and speak as we ought is sometimes a greater struggle than to charge at the head of a troop, or command a field battery; and that he who fearlessly does right, when there are greater temptations to do wrong, is as true a hero as any soldier that ever carried a sword.”

Another great tale from a Christian point of view by this masterful author. This story tells the tale of a young peasant boy who believes that the truth should be told regardless of the consequences. Even when he is pressured by the prince and his guards he refuses to go back on his word. A story that proves the Lord rewards even a seemingly insignificant good deed. Von Schmid teaches the importance of good character in all of his books and this one is no exception.
