I have debated about this review. I enjoyed reading the book, but felt it was very 'young' - meaning the story and dialogue was quite simple and maybe geared for a younger reader. It reminded me of many stories I read with my 3rd and 4th graders, but the subject was older. It covered marriage death and hardships that I think would of been hard reading for my boys and they would have put it down feeling unengaged. If that makes sense it was something that would be interesting to an adult yet written on a much younger level. That said, it was a nice pioneer story and interesting, so if reading at a lower level doesn't bother you, it's a great fast read.
I love this book! Its an old favourite from my junior high days. It has a fun, interesting story but is written very simply. The story moves fast and the book is short, which is both good and bad for a reader like me (I can get bored easily when I read). Sometimes I found it a bit cheesy, but not in a way that made me dislike the book. I liked how it had interesting historical information. All in all, it was a good read for me!
