The text is a little pedantic in places, but I believe this is a book that merits reading it multiple times. It will also function as a coffee table book; there are a number of beautiful pictures of instrument every few pages. There is also a poster included that shows a timeline of when various types of lutes came into common use.

I thought it was a really interesting book. I now know more about lutes then when I got mine.
