I have never read a book with this setting. Early 1900's in the USA. The era in which President Warren G. Harding died in office. Calvin Coolidge became president. Silent movies. Though not a character in the book, they mention the famous silent film star, Mary Pickford. Girls wear bulky large bathing suits for modesty. Cars are just becoming popular.
It was interesting to read something from this era, but the story itself was rather weak. A young teenage girl becomes orphaned and her father's wealthy employers take her in. She's in a world of Hollywood wealth and privilege. Her movie director neighbor asks her to be in a silent movie. Several others want her role and there is jealousy and she feels threatened at times.
