New powers begin to develop after a mysterious ash falls from the sky. Visions of strange landscapes, an internal pull to an unknown location, and a common thread they've all dreamed of. What is The Source, and why is it calling to them?
Reena decides to lead a team to find out because there's something she meant to do there. The question is, can she trust everyone she travels with? Because there is something they can agree upon—The Source is power. She's just not sure if it's good or bad.

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of Source Awakening and wow, I'm so grateful. It was such a great entertaining YA science fiction!
I was hooked by the first chapter. There was amazing tension between Reena (the main character) and Jaxson (her best friend and potential love interest), which kept me captivated throughout the story. This book has so much heart due to the strong familial relationships and friendships forged. I was very invested in the main characters and wanted them to succeed.
I also was intrigued by the 'source' and had to know what it was. I found myself thinking about it when I wasn't reading, hoping to get back to the book so I could find out. So let's just say, I'm really looking forward to the next book.
I really wanted to give it five stars because I enjoyed it so much, but there were a couple things that didn't quite hit the mark. One character (I won't say who so I don't spoil the story) seems to get unintentionally forgotten about, Reena doesn't worry about them when they could be in danger. And I think the first half could have moved a bit quicker and the 'source' be introduced earlier with more focus on the science fiction aspect. However, I was never bored thanks to the tension in the relationships.
Highly recommended giving this one a read!!

From the first page, I was on Team Reena. I remember making stupid decisions in high school for stupid reasons, and being angry at myself for them, so I found her very relatable. This isn't your standard apocalypse story...it has a fallible hero who gets emotional and makes stupid (yet completely understandable) decisions in highly stressful situations. Yet, she is still competent and maintains her humanity. I could literally FEEL every one of Reena's emotions as she faced each obstacle, and her motivations and reactions are authentic. I can't wait to read book 2!

Couldn't put it down!
This was a fantastic read! I love that it's not the same basic end of the world, apocalyptic type storyline that everyone else seems to be writing. The characters are relatable and loveable. The back and forth between loving and fighting is appropriate for the age of the characters and relatable. And for the record, I'm on team Jax! I can't wait for the second book!

A fun read with a new twist on the apocalypse Characters are relatable and human in all the embarrassing ways. Shows supportive relationships with friends and family. while still having a worthy adversary.

This is a solid offering from author Tracey Canole that includes all the right elements, plus more! A rouge planet crashes into earth, causing global devastation. Reena, her family and her ex-boyfriend all must struggle to survive as the planet turns into a wasteland, bringing hunger, lawlessness and danger along with it.
Her characters are real, their interactions are genuine and the world Tracy Canole creates is believable and terrifying! This is more than a post-apocalyptic survival story. It blends elements of fantasy and science fiction well.
And be prepared for a few twists along the way!
