I took too long to finish this book. Once I finally got back into it & started to take some notes I found some good helps here. The calls to self care of the soul & purity were strong pieces of the book. Probably more my fault that I can’t give this 5 stars.
I loved this book. I immediately went out and bought two other books written by Neil Wiseman. This is a beautiful book with heartfelt advice for pastors. Don’t wait to read this one, you won’t be disappointed!
i've got mixed feelings on this. Definitely some good insights. i think we all ought to continue learning about what we "do", no matter what we "do". Problem was, it ended bad. It clearly said that we ought to spend as much time "doing ministry" as the busiest member of our church puts in between their profession and volunteer time, and settled on 60hrs a week as ideal. i think that's a very unhealthy target goal for someone with a family. i don't see "balance" in that. Sometimes i do spend that much time, but i'm usually frazzled and temperamental when i do.
Mixed feelings - some really good advice unfortunately mixed in with an assumption that all pastors are male and that a 60 hour working week, a family life, a hobby, soul time, social time and a few others things combined is quite doable. The authors must have more hours in their week than I do.
All pastors or people considering going into Full-time pastoral ministry should read this book. Great perspective on the role of a pastor! Life-changing...
the first half of the book encourages pastors to continue on and to remember their call from God. The second half for me was basically living the life like Jesus as a pastor.
