Quick-there's a monster in your closet! No? Then, MAKE one! Every closet hides a multitude of out-of-style sweaters, pearl-trimmed jackets, ill-fitting jeans…and worse. And all the repurposing in the world won't make them wearable again. Fortunately, the inimitable John Murphy of Stupid Sock Creature fame has devised a “green” solution: take those ugly pink sport coats and muumuus and turn them into goofy goonies, multi-legged monsters, other awesomely adorable creatures. They're all charmingly illustrated with cartoonish élan by the author himself.
So much wild sewing and recycling fun in this book! I won't make anything close to exact from this book, but I have learned a lot and will fashion something that will have a flavor of John Murphy's Monsters. The plentiful graphics are complex and take a bit of puzzling to figure it out- but these little beasts have a lot going on with them. I would have loved to have photos showing some step-by-step details. The graphic design of the pages is well done and organization of the book is clear. I'll look up the author's other books.
John Murphy doesn't disappoint in his characters and their back stories. Closet Monsters are a little more complex than Stupid Sock Creatures. I guess they have more to talk about since socks tend to hide under pant legs....
Great book for anyone who enjoys Murphy's sense of humor and easy going instructions, which are as enjoyable here as they are with his sock monster books. This book has more/different techniques for when you've chopped up all the socks in the house and your kids outgrow a few PJs..
