Div.), The Master's Seminary (faculty and Th. M. work), Dallas Theological Seminary (Dr. of Biblical Ministry) and with Francis Schaeffer at L'Abri Fellowship.
John shares his life with Bonnie his beloved wife, and over the past 30 years of uninterrupted ministry, John has served congregations in the East, and the West, before coming to the precious saints at Calvary Bible Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 2008. He has served on the Faculty of the Master's College & Seminary. He was an Associate Pastor to Dr. John MacArthur at Grace Community Church for five years overseeing the Shepherding Ministries. During graduate school, John served as the Assistant Dean of Men at Bob Jones University for five years.
Called to the ministry as a young man--his passion remains prayer and the ministry of God's Word. As a global Christian, and having ministered the Word in 60+ nations around the world, John's ministry is deeply touched by outreach and evangelism. Since 1978, in conjunction with Land of the Book Tours John has led dozens of study tours, retreats, travels, and pilgrimages with over 1,500 participants, and taught on site in 21 countries and on five continents. As a Seminary Professor of Theology, Church History and the English Bible, John's messages reflect the background of the Scripture from the ancient biblical world, the history of the church and the daily life in far corners of the planet. In 1998 a new ministry called Discover the Book Ministry was launched to provide electronic copies of Pastor John's audio, video, and text studies free of charge to pastors, missionaries, and other believers. Since then, this ministry has grown to serve saints in all 50 states and over 145 lands around the world, as well as through daily radio on a growing number of radio stations in the USA, Europe and the Caribbean.

"Word Filled Families" is a good, comprehensive work on the nature of a biblical family. Barnett has arranged the book in four major sections: The Word Filled Life, Marriage, Family, & Prayer Life. Each section consists of 5-6 chapters.
The strength of this work lies in its biblical foundation. As the title suggests, the author firmly believes that everything a Christian family needs to know regarding pleasing God in the home is found in the Scriptures. The author has eight believing children and thus, along with his wife, have a vast storehouse of knowledge from which to pull. The book is full of practical advice for those looking for marriage and parenting tips.
Although I found the book to be truthful and practical, it suffered in a few minor areas. Some of the parenting advice given had a culturally, not just biblically, fundamentalist feel. Also, although the gospel was mentioned and the doctrines of the gospel heartily affirmed and taught, I would have liked to have seen the work of Christ, and the fact that we can only live faithfully before God because of what God did for us, emphasized more.
All in all, a decent book, but doesn't necessarily say something that other books don't. I would recommend other parenting and marriage books before this one.

What I loved about this book was his constant use of scripture to back everything up. I think that's extremely important for any book offering advice like this.
What I didn't like was it was so detailed it was a hard read for me. It took me a long tom to get through this book and it was always the last one I wanted to pick up. Mainly because I knew I had to be "on my game" to make sure I didn't miss anything because it was so detailed. That's the only reason why i gave it three stars

The book was rather lengthy and I had to read it in multiple sittings over the course of 2 months. Very helpful and insightful, but a lot to take in. I feel the guide to daily prayer for the week will be what I find to be the most applicable for this season of my life with 2 toddlers.

Such a great book! Very well written and so many scriptures about prayer and examples in the Bible about praying for your children and their future.
