For Guren Ichinose, a fifteen-year-old magic user born into a lowly clan, that journey begins when he is forced to enroll at an academy run by his order’s mortal enemies. There, while endlessly tormented by his insufferably privileged classmates, Guren must hide his true strength and weave his way through intrigue and deceit amid the rising winds of war.
This all-new manga adaptation of the standalone light novel prequels to the hit manga Seraph of the End follows Guren as he takes his first steps toward inevitable calamity—the apocalypse that ushered in the reign of vampires.
It is a tale of catastrophe, of star-crossed love, lies, and the search for an escape from destiny. How far will Guren go, and what—or whom—must he sacrifice for his ambitions?
It’s been a while since I read something that had so many women and girls as major characters, while minimizing their characters as all being in love with or crushing on the main character in some way, all while sexualizing them. Don’t even get me started on the first arc and that sexualization and sexual violence toward young girls and the reveal. Even without that, the characters felt shallow, like one-dimensional versions of themselves following every cliche. It feels very juvenile compared to the main series, despite the content matter. It’s so odd because I am pretty sure it’s all the same writer?? The art was inconsistent in quality and flat when they were given some battle scenes that could have been showstoppers. So, basically, subpar characters, subpar plot (Oh no, an evil high school where they all hate you and want to kill you! I sure hope we were made to care about the main character so that we’d care about a circumstance like that), and subpar art. It’s really trying to ride the coattails of the main series, so, if you just want backstory to enjoy the main series more, I’d recommend just reading a summary of this instead.
Warnings for sexual violence & SA against minors, attempted SA by family members, nudity & sexualization of minors, graphic violence & murder, body horror, etc.
Okkk a pretty good start to Guren’s story. I was a little bored at times in comparison to the main series but I think that’s just because I can’t wait to find out more about Guren’s past. It is really cool to see him try to hide his power and fight it in comparison to in the series where he doesn’t.

I am a seraph of the end fan and has read one volume of the light novels as well so to see this turn into a manga and read it was so much fun and also beautiful to see younger Guren and younger of the rest as well.
