John Malam is a British historian, archaeologist, and author of children’s non-fiction books. Trained in Ancient History and Archaeology, he worked on excavations and led an archaeology unit before becoming an editor and later a full-time writer specializing in ancient civilizations.
As a child's history book of Egypt, this is pretty decent. Covers the history of Ancient Egypt, with plenty details about day to day life, religion and inevitably mummification. There's also a look at the 20th century archaeology which rediscovered the civilisation. The writing is clear and concise.
As a Indiana Jones book it is pretty disappointing. Aside from the odd sentence along the lines of "I decided to visit Cairo to learn more." there is no attempt to put any kind of fictional framework around the schoolbook text. Indy's contribution is essentially a scattering of random photos of Dr Jones amongst the illustrations.
This book is part of a series. Indy also explored Romans and Vikings.
