Abigail after wasting years on a cheating boyfriend is single and finally able to participate in the Goblin Hunt, a mating ritual where females flee and hide while males hunt them as they please. Her friends convince her to take a chance and run through the woods with a seven-foot green skinned monster in pursuit.

Henrich has no interest in going to Gaia and seeking out a mate. His mother betrays him arranging his transport and mate claim leave behind his back. However, once he's at the grounds allocated for the hunt, he scents his mate immediately. His mother will gloat, but he will be forever grateful for the overbearing female giving him the push he needed.

Now Henrich will need to convince Abigail that they are fated to be together for the rest of their lives. Cultures will clash but nothing will burn hotter than the passion between a goblin and the female he chooses to hunt and make his own.

Goblin Hunt is a short novella with just over 14,000 words and the start of the Monster Merge Romance series. It includes a peek at the next novel in the series, My Orcish Mate available in late 2023. It also includes a sample of the Kindle Vella serialized novel The Witch's Elf.

Precursor to a broader set of stories

‘Goblin Hunt’ by Jacqueline Carmine is a pedestrian tale of boy meets girl, falls in love, marries and settles down with kids. The twist? She works in finance while he’s a seven-foot, well-built, green goblin. The protagonist is Abigail, who, by her own admission, has ‘read plenty of shifter romances in my time’, and she is cajoled into attending a hunt by her friend Elsie. Abigail wonders if the hunt would be ‘like the games of hide and seek we played as children’ but also questions her intentions at the culmination of this particular game. Her pursuer is Henrich, who, by modern standards, is a sharp goblin-about-town and not at all like the fae beings one might typically expect.

Henrich reflects that ‘The hunt is tradition. Leftover from a time when females were rare, and the goblin population was dwindling.’ This is, however, the extent of Carmine’s world-building. She focuses on the intimate moments between the two characters with a relentless focus on Abigail’s satisfaction; indeed, her mate receives nothing for his specific pleasure. Henrich is obsessively concerned with meeting Abigail’s everyday needs and is as perfect a homemaker and chef as he is a mate.

Carmine describes both Abigail and Henrich’s attributes in equal, colourful measure. Both have physical qualities that the everyday person would want to flaunt. He is, of course, the stuff of fantasy, from ribbed appendage to hairless torso, while she is perfect in a perfectly human way. Strip out these passages from this short story, and there is little left to boast. I would like to see some more meat on the bones, not just inside our heroine.

If you’re looking for a quick read that you can enjoy in solitude, there’s enough here to pleasantly pass an hour or so. Yet ‘Goblin Hunt’ is a precursor to a broader set of stories, which I hope have more substance over… ahem… style.

I'm in love with an 'alien'

I began reading this book in a very light mood, a girl meets the boy of her dreams theme, juicy sex scenes, and a touch of fantasy - precisely what is required of a bedtime read to launch pleasant dreams and a wakeup full of smiles (if you know what I mean). The female protagonist, Abigail, is a professionally successful woman, despite her personal life which has left her with enough disappointment to consider participating in a mating-hunt, while Henrich, the male co-star, and a green, red-eyed hunk of a goblin, is every woman's fantasy come true - strong and handsome but also sweet and tender and unquestionably a mind-blowing pleasure-giver. I could definitely related to that!
But once I got past the erotic / romantic surface of the plot, I was pleased to discover that this was also a story about the 'other' and how basic human nature works toward bringing individuals together rather than separating them, be they human or goblin, coloured or not, native or foreign, or whatever other difference may be constructed to divide people. As long as one can find what they are looking for in an ‘alien’, no external constraints apply. And this is universally accepted in the world Jacqueline Carmine created for this book, which is a serious point, made all the more successful by the fact that it is delivered in such a subtle and enjoyable manner.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading more of this author. Thumbs up from me!

'Already I’m resigning myself to my mother’s gloating. Her smugness will be well earned.'

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun, quick read. Abigail broke up with her cheating boyfriend, and her friend signed her up for the Goblin Hunt. The prospect of a mate bond and a loyal male like in shifter romance is very appealing after her last relationship. Henrich has no interest in the Hunt, but his mother signed him up. When he catches the scent of his mate in the crowd, he knows she was right to send him.

I thought the two of them made a great match.

"I expect nothing from you. All I want is you. Exactly as you are.”

I liked that the intimacy was first at the hunt, and then they took some time to get to know each other, developing their relationship. Though short, the story felt complete and I enjoyed getting to know the characters. I also liked Abigail's friend, Elise. 4 stars.

Girl meets hunky goblin. This book is an erotic fantasy story that doesn’t hold back. Goblins are usually seen as ugly and foul orc-like creatures in fantasy tales. But not in this world. The goblins here are basically very tall, dashing, hulk-like men with green skin. The story is also set in our modern human world. It just so happens that goblins, along with vampires, coexist with human society too. The author doesn’t delve into how the world works. Instead, the story moves quickly into the sexual fantasy aspect of a modern woman named Abigail quickly falling for a goblin man named Heinrich. This occurs during a mating hunt of all things, which is apparently accepted in this society. So if you’ve ever had fantasies of a goblin-human woman romance, then this story may interest you. It’s fairly short, and easy to finish. The book also contains some samples of the author’s other stories.

This book tells the story of Abigail and Henrich. Abigail is a human and Henrich is a goblin. They live in a world where humans and goblins can mate. It all begins with a goblin hunt.
This book is listed as erotica. It is very erotic, but there are strong romantic components. It mainly focuses on the beings from different backgrounds coming together.
The world building in his book is good. This part of the book has both science fiction and fantasy qualities. It creates a scenario that is much more than just porn literature.
The character development is also good. The author does a good job of establishing two different personalities. The sex, which is a very important component of this book, is graphic and well described. There is variety and a good amount of good weirdness to it. Overall, I would recommend this book if your into hot romance or romantic erotica.

Abigail (h) is convinced by her friends to partake in the Goblin Hunt where women run through national parks and are pursued by goblin males, to be caught for either pleasure or, if the fates decree, a mate. Henrich (H) has been avoiding the hunt but his grandspawn desiring mother arranges for him to join the hunt and hopefully find his mate. Even before the hunt, Heinrich scents Abigail as his and now he just must chase her down before any other male finds her. Things heat up quickly between the two and with their bond Abigail may be in for a few surprises. Ultra-hot and steamy goblin-human quickie romance with primal play, a few spanks, and more.

I was so enamored with Dr. Ghoul’s Girl from this author (loved it!), I couldn’t resist reading more and was super excited to see Goblin Hunt. This had a different feel than Ghoul, to me, keeping my attention on this author even more.

Abigail is signed up for the Goblin Hunt by her friends, and though she probably wouldn’t have done it herself, she’s not opposed. But if this is something that’s happening, she’s not going to mess around. This is serious, and she’s taking it seriously. She’s in it to ‘win’ it, and plans accordingly. But she really didn’t think about what really means. I gobbled this book up. Looking forward to more from this author!

Little freebie during a Stuff your Kindle.

I really liked the premise of the book! Males sign up for a hunt and females(or anyone else interested in finding a mate) sign up to be hunted during an annual event. I also liked the set up of the universe/world. I thought both were fairly unique in their own ways, enough to stand on for a full length book! This definitely could have been developed into something longer instead of being crazy rushed to fit into a novella but that's what we got.

I liked this enough to check out the next couple novellas as well

Henrich wasn’t interested in the mate hunt this year but he had no choice because of his mother’s interference he doubts that he will find his mate but he does. Abigail was cheated on by her boyfriend now her friend has registered her for the hunt she wasn’t happy but having a man who would be dedicated to her sounded good so she won’t miss it and when Henrich faces her she screams. I loved this story and the characters and I highly recommend this book.

Sweet and very spicy.
A Goblin/human mate hunt meet cute short read.

This is my second short read from this author, and I must say that I enjoy her writing style a lot! She strikes a good balance between cute and steamy in her storytelling.
I hope that the author will write a longer story someday, as I find myself liking her characters and not wanting to leave them behind me.

Short and sweet with minimal to no angst I loved it. I hope the next book in this series is longer, but I think the novella length did Abigail and Henrich's story justice. The insta love trope is one of my guilty pleasures.
