Overall the book is a good overview of the process of designing a light aircraft, but it could benefit from some polishing and definitely should not be taken as a “complete guide”. The first chapter attempts to explain basic arithmetic to the reader, which suggests a target audience that hasn’t yet completed grade school. Later chapters seem to assume that the reader is already a structural engineer. The hand drawn graphs and illustrations are nostalgic throwbacks to the golden era of aircraft design. However the scan quality is occasionally lacking. In the end it was a pleasant read that clearly was written by an expert in the craft who wished to convey the joy and feasibility of airplane design to others. In that, he succeeded.
