Postcards from Planet Earth

Rate this book
As a nation of immigrant people, Australia has one of the most culturally diverse societies in the world. Postcards from Planet Earth brings together poems from many different cultures and languages that are bound by common themes of human emotion and experience, regardless of national, racial, or religious differences.

The anthology includes poems from places far and near such as Chile, Canada, Nigeria, Norway, Hungary, Iraq, Pakistan, Korea, Tonga and New Zealand, and is divided into themes including
* political protest
* the human condition
* critics of society
* nature
* a sense of place

It further explores sources of inspiration for poetry from paintings and other forms of literature. A section entitled 'The Poet at Work' exposes the drafting processes of two well-known poets, William Blake and Wilfred Owen.

Valuable suggestions for the teaching and reading of poetry are provided, as well as further notes about the poems and their writers.
