Best Easy Day Hikes Albuquerque includes concise descriptions of the best short hikes in the area, with detailed maps of the routes. The 20 hikes in this guide are generally short, easy to follow, and guaranteed to please.
The author has a serious problem- he doesn't know what he wants to do when he grows up. Meanwhile, he's done such things as wildland fire fighting, running a mountain shop, flying airplanes, shooting photos, and writing books. He's a backcountry skier, climber, figure skater, mountain biker, amateur radio operator, river runner, and sea kayaker- but the thing that really floats his boat is hiking and backpacking. No matter what else he tries, the author always come back to hiking- especially long, rough, cross-country trips in places like the Grand Canyon. Some people never learn. But what little he has learned, he's willing share with you- via his books, of course, but also via his websites, blogs, and whatever works.
This book, much like the rest of the "Best Easy Day Hikes" series is a good place to start when looking for the basic trails in any given area. The drawback, the descriptions are very basic and generalized and often times the author has hiked in the area but only knows the basics of any given locale. For example, in this book Agua Sarca Canyon is changed to Aqua Barca Canyon. This is not just in the text but also on the maps. Someone should have caught that. I have nothing personally against the author, but couldn't the publishing company find soneone who is more familiar with the Albuquerque area to write a book on easy Albuquerque hikes that will often be read by people who may not be residents? However, it must be said that the book does provide basic information for some of the best easy hikes around Albuquerque and in that regard, it adequately fulfills its stated intent.
