Well, not really, but this should tell you all you need to know about me and my writing style.
I'm a huge Marvel (plus Game of Thrones, Star Trek AND Star Wars) fan, which shows since my novel is loaded with pop culture references. If you are a sci-fi fan (I assume that you are, otherwise what are you doing here?) you will enjoy them tremendously. I even went full Deadpool in my first draft and broke the fourth wall multiple times, until my editor told it was distracting and kept taking her out of the moment. Shame. Those fourth-wall breaks were hilarious. Still, I can guarantee a few laugh-out-loud moments. Case in point: The "good" aliens in my novel are a race of pranksters, whose main goal in life is pulling other people's legs (They have four legs, hence the slight change in the idiom). My favorite author is Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files), which is probably how I ended up writing in a first-person POV with the same light-hearted, funny tone as he does. The fact that my MC's name is Jim is purely coincidental though.
I am a university/college level English teacher, and including Canada, I have lived and worked in five different countries. I have met people from all around the world. Plus, my parents are from a different background, and so is my wife. As a result, diversity has become a major theme in my novel. My characters look like the bridge crew from Star Trek. One of my female characters even impersonated Uhura once, albeit posthumously.
Sean Robins ups the odds with the latest installment in his epic sci fi action series The Crimson Universe! Fighter pilot Jim has bested grave threats before from AI to interdimensional beings, but now he must fight an enemy far beyond any he’s faced before. A godlike alien race has been pulling the strings up to this point, but now they’ve stepped into the light and are bent on ruling the galaxy. Robins’ writing is always imaginative and captures my attention immediately through his perfect blend of action, likeable characters, and intriguing twists! The Crimson Universe really brought things to a new level, though, as protagonist Jim had to come up with a way to fight beings that were truly gods and could destroy planets by simply willing it. How he did this is what really drew me into the book and made things intense (I love a good David versus Goliath story)! If you love sci fi that has a perfect blend of action, character, and universe lore, then definitely come jump into the fray with The Crimson Universe!
I so enjoyed this book by Sean Robins. Keep your eyes open as things move quickly. It was a thrill to see Xornaa with a young child. Treatment worked! Perhaps one day Jim and Liz will follow suit? A lot of changes, different multiverses. Actually, was fun to see all the interactions. My heart literally stops beating when the action gets too tight. And there's plenty of that. Now I can't wait for the last book in this series. Will hate to say a final good-bye to everyone, but I'm sure that with Sean, it will be well worth the wait.
This book varied between knowing all hope was lost and thinking that the day had been saved to only have it turn worse than before. The action was always intense with more than enough "gallows humor" to go around.
Many of Jim's friends were lost in this book. The number of obstacles that must be overcome seems to never decrease and always seem to get harder with each book.
Outstanding book with great narration.
This book was provided free of charge with the expectation of an honest review.
The author Sean Robins keeps doing the unbelievable with the eighth book of the series. His incredible un imaginable Imagination which won’t let me eat or sleep must stop after book nine or ether my heart will just stop or I’ll stop it myself.
The narrator C. J. Gray is, perfectly voicing each of the characters in the series.
As the series returns to the original universe, Jim and his team are once again fighting for survival, as the Aax'ods come calling. As the god like aliens take over the universe, Jim puts into action he most outlandish plan ever. Good story, that moves at a nice pace with now well established characters.
In was interesting that we are back in the prime universe but god-like aliens have come to play. I found most to the aliens to be toddlers with superpowers, that is the best way i can describe them. I love how Jim and his friends dealt with the threat, and how some old friends came to help.
