Gene Autry and the Golden Stallion By:Kelsey Argyle This story starts off with Gene Autry taking a letter to his friend, Don Felipe. He learns about an evil man named Kiber, He wants to buy Don Felipe’s land out from under him! But, in order to get the money to do so, He needs to capture the wild herd of horses and sell them for money, Gene learns of this plan and it becomes a race for the wild palimos.
There were several forms of figurative language in this book, some include “The sun was a flaming band just above the sahara” and “A blackened coffee pot bubbled on the fire and there was a heartening aroma of boiling meat”, When Evestian explains the location of the wild horses he says “ On that high slope you can see it sticking up yonder like a hog's back” As the band of men rode out one morning the author said “The morning sun quicky burned away the night's chill” And when They found a resting spot of the horses, it was described “Nothing at all grazing in pockets of grass that, well watered, were a bright emerald”
Things that I liked and disliked about this book. I liked the example Gene Autry sets, He shows to be a hard worker and to be fair, not cruel. For the whole book I was hoping someone would just punch Keber in the face. He is a great character for a bad guy. This book had humor and it kept you on your toes. Sometimes it was hard to keep track of the spanish names and understand a few of the sene’s this book painted. You were always waiting to see what trick Gene would pull next.
I truly loved this book. The writing style was very calming and I enjoyed the story line. This was my dad's book from when he was a kid so that made it more special for me personally. It was refreshing to read a book with a happy but believable ending. I enjoyed this old western!
