Rose

Rose is a young girl who lives in the East End. Her mother, Florence has bad health and father, William, is always up the pub. Rose meets a man in the market called Charles. He is handsome, well dressed and not like the usual men in the area. When he asks her out she is delighted and rushes home to tell her mother she has met a 'toff.' Florence dies and soon after the funeral Rose returns home to find William cuddling a loose women. She is furious and determined to leave the East End. She applies for a job in a big house in Buckinghamshire and is taken on as a lady's maid. After a difficult start, Rose soon begins to enjoy her new life in the country but she often wonders if she will ever see Charles again.
