Interesting book which I first read when it was published but have just re-read in the past week. It is strong on the characters involved, especially the Italian civilians, but including direct speech is implausible.
The authors' show themselves to be unfamiliar with military terminology, a major problem when writing military history. As but one example the British 23 Armoured Brigade is given at least three designations and at one point is even referred to as a US formation called 23rd Mechanized Brigade. It certainly wasn't 23rd Armoured Division!
The failure to understand military culture as well as strategy and tactics weakens the work and leaves the reader yearning for a good treatment of the subject.
