A sweeping romance which takes us from Julia and Ulysses' courtship in the woods of White Haven, her plantation home, to her dramatic role in the surrender of the South. "Unconditional Surrender" reveals General and Mrs. Grant as romantic, passionate and sexy.
Poorly structured. No evidence of research (bibliography, index). No letters from Julia included. No context (what was happening in the wars, outposts, etc. when these letters were written, and finally the author's gushing responses to letters. On page 110 the author writes: "For the first time, Ulysses scolds Julia for neglecting him. There is something sexy about his desire to "scold" her." Comments like this made me squirm. This book was a great idea that didn't get past a first draft. Go back and do some research and fill in the missing gaps. This book has potential.
