The Cheeky Guide to Brighton

Rate this book
Sixteen glorious years, 40,000 sales and still no lawsuits.

The UK's most outrageous guidebook returns in its sixth incarnation, boasting hundreds of photos, illustrations by local artists and a build-it-yourself cardboard model of the i360 observation tower. As always pubs, clubs, hotels and tourist attractions are amply covered, but with Cheeky Guides being as much about people as places, in this edition you'll find features on local eccentrics, grumpy shopkeepers, moustachioed cads and artists, as well as information on how to spot local celebrities, complete with a point-scoring system that ranges from 9 (Zoella) to 37 (Nick Cave).

A frank look at both the joys and disappointments of the town, The Cheeky Guide says what it sees; from the horrors of Brighton's concrete monstrosity the Marina to the glories of North Laine's wealth of independent boutiques and the town's flamboyant entertainment scene.

About the author

Tim Bick

5 books
Tim Bick's first writing job was in 1984 as a cub reporter for Arizona music paper Newsreal, where he was paid in free copies of the paper and congratulatory notes from the editor, thus prefiguring today's online world of writing for a credit and two clicks of the Like button. He has co-written three books for Cheeky Guides, whose publishing ethos appears to be to allow its authors to do whatever they want. Even if that entails being very silly indeed.

Bick's writing is inspired principally by Proust, Vivian Stanshall and Bruce Robinson. He thinks swearing is big and clever, but only in mixed company. Above all he insists on challenging the status quo, breaking down barriers, saying the unsayable and dealing in self-serving clichés. A photo of the author with his dog is available for fly leafs.
