Winning the race is one thing, but can Alex be a winner in love? Tomboy lawyer Alex Reilly loves nothing better than coming first—except her sexy red Lotus sports car. Preparing for the grueling Snowy Mountains Car Rally, Alex isn't expecting competition in the form of glamorous model Lyn Stanton. Lyn is everything Alex is blonde, gorgeous, and girlie—and she's also navigating the race for Keir Thomas, the man who left town and broke Alex's heart 11 years ago. When the three are unexpectedly thrown together, Alex realizes she must find a way to trust Keir again to have any chance of crossing the finish line first. Will they be able to confront their troubled past and rediscover not only their shared passion for cars, but each other?

The characters to the plot to the layout to the front cover was absolutely on fleek.
I usually dont read any books at all that are written in third person because I find that I don't get lost in the story at all and that I don't really connect with the characters enough to indulge in the story wholeheartedly. HOWEVER, I really did feel every single thing that the characters were feeling. I wasn't disconnected at all and that was what made me want to keep reading and never stop. This story has changed my views on third person point of view now.
It really was intriguing and I couldn't stop reading it. I love how the central protagonist wasn't a typical 'hot' girl or even a character who other characters would just dismiss as mediocre but then is described as this gorgeous super model. Alex (the main character) was described to perfection and I had such a vivid and clear visualization of what she looked like and her characteristics. Lyn was also a really surprising character. I really liked her for the fact that even though she was that cliche looking supermodel with long blonde hair and all that, that she actually wasn't cliched at all. I love the moment when Alex hears Lyn talk for the first time and is shocked to hear that her voice is deep and rich instead of squeaky and obnoxious which is what I think, most people would categorize glamorous supermodels.
I also loved how we got deeper and deeper into Alex's and Kier's past together and got to find out what happened before when they were teenagers and just getting together.
The only negative thing I have to say is barely a thing at all. Maybe half a thing. I had to force myself to think of something, anything negative to say. Since the book ended at the ball, maybe the ball could have been introduced earlier in the book. When the ball did pop up, I just felt that it was the a bit random.
But I really did enjoy this book and I am already daydreaming about Alex and Kier and Katie all together going on lunchdates with Paul and Lyn (who in my mind adopted a children and have a great big lovely family too). I knew I would like this book but the cars, the characters, the look into the world of racing, the writing style just made me fall in love.
Australian author Janet Gover has written three books for the little black dress imprint. I'm hoping to read more from her in the future because I just lover her books! In fact, this book is a 4.5/5 for me.
Girl Racers is about two girls who end up forming a race team due to the unforeseen circumstances of a car crash and pregnancy. Alex Reilly is a lawyer, and a bit of a loner, who's had her heart broken. She's driving her dream car a red Lotus in her first race, when she discovers the man who broke her heart Keir Thomas will also be participating in the race. It's been twelve years since they've seen each other.
Lyn Stanton is a model. She's an unlikely participant in a car race, but she has her reasons. When she finds she may have to drop out of the race, she teams up with Alex. Lyn is not only beautiful, but she has brains, will she be able to fulfill her goals and maybe meet someone in the process who really sees her?
This book is fast paced and action packed. From the flashbacks from both Keir and Alex's viewpoints, to the five day race, the story flowed well and I was hooked form the first page, something Janet Gover has done in all her books. I like how so many topics were part of this book, like Angelman Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, or the differences between social classes, to the prejudices faced by women in a male dominated event/hobby, and the list can go on. If you ever get the chance to read something by Janet Gover, jump at it. You won't regret it at all!
Say hi to my very first English novel!!! Thanks to Janet Gover for not boring me through the reading. And unfortunately, this makes me want to buy more imported books! Oh. And mind if I say that they're costly? But it's worth it. I know. Back to the book, I love Kier and Alex. Really. They're just like meant for each other. And believe me, I read the whole words! Janet Gover has made me laugh from the very first page when she tells the readers why she left Australia for USA. And she wrote, "The reason is 6 feet tall and has green eyes!" If I'm not mistaken. LOL! Oh, and believe me when I said I read the whole words. Though I don't understand some words--and I was too tired to open up a dictionary though I finally understood them in the end--I did enjoy the racing thingy! Oh and these 300-page book felt like 700 pages!
So, Mrs. Gover, if you read this, ma'am, HI FROM INDONESIA!!!
Honestly when I 1st bought this book I bought I with 8 other books by the publishers of Little Black Dress Books for 10dhs each one.
I left this book in the last 3 to read butt once I read it I realized it's actually I nice book. I love cars and this book made me want to be a racer!
Plus, the love story in the book is interesting and keeps you guessing on what will happen.
Glad I bought it and read it. Also I became a fan of the Little Black Dress Books publishers. But sadly I can't seem to find their books anymore! Anyway I suggest looking into LBP books because they are short and easy reads
First book I've read of Janet's and it was extremely well written. Taking place in Canberra and surrounds, it involves our rich-girl heroine and poor-boy-done-good hero who are both competing in a car race (for different reasons). They have a rocky, mutual past that's a massive hurdle to overcome before they get their HEA. With well rounded secondary characters and realistic description, this is a sweet romance that doesn't skimp on tension or pace. It's refreshing to read a romance that can still hold my interest without multiple graphic love scenes :-)
