I enjoyed the book. the pictures were the best part, and thankfully, plentiful. they were beautiful, almost hurt to look at them.

it’s incredible how little it talked about basque people. or for gods sake san sebastián even. it’s almost impressive the extent to which the book ignored basque country + architecture + geography in both pictures and words. like if i have to look at one more picture from granada i’m gonna scream

the writing was saccharine, dramatic, flowery, and a little ridiculous, borderline unreadable. author claimed spain should be considered part of africa. i don’t know if that’s a theory for some people but it’s ridiculous. why don’t we just throw Sicily in there too, it’s below the pyrenees. like some of the writing would have been fine if it were sprinkled in between sensical even-toned commentary. but every single sentence was like “the window is a celebration of life.” Every Single Sentence. and this is from the 90s so why on earth is there no use of the oxford comma.
