More than 150 extraordinary color photographs and a wealth of fascinating facts are packed into this easy-to-read book on animals ranging from A (rmadillos) to Z(ebras)."
I am still a fan of animal fact books and so whenever I find one I like to read it. Most of the modern ones are awful in their presentation while the older ones end up being outdated even though they are still good sources. So what about this one?
I found myself quite enjoying this book. The size is something that could have been changed as it was a big book but at the same time it allows the book's page size to be smaller while also making it easier to read with a bit bigger font. Furthermore the author has done a great job in balancing out the books so that there are colored photographs for each entry.
The picture of the animal leads into the question and then the page gives the answer for the reader. The writing is simple and doesn't include much scientific information that will have you scrambling for a scientific dictionary. Altogether the information include was informative and correct although someone needs to re-read the orangutan and get him correctly home. At the same time unlike the newer more politically correct times we live in the author doesn't refer to the killer whale by its proper name either.
All in all if I had a copy of this book I would probably do my own editing on the orangutan but otherwise I would recommend this book for animal lovers and children who are fascinated by animals in general. And maybe you can even use the orangutan entry just to show that you have to always be aware that informative books may not always have the correct information and that learning helps to round out your own knowledge.
